Two-Day Workshop on LaTeX for Beginners - A Hands-on Approach to Scientific Writing

The Department of Mathematics, School of Sciences, successfully organized a Two-Day Workshop on LaTeX for Beginners on the 7th and 8th of April 2025. The event was held in the University Seminar Hall and aimed at equipping students with the essential skills of scientific and technical writing using LaTeX software.

Workshop Overview
The hands-on workshop was designed to introduce students to LaTeX, a high-quality typesetting system widely used for producing scientific and technical documents. The sessions focused on enhancing the students' ability to create professional reports, research articles, presentations, and academic documents.

Each day was structured into four engaging sessions, covering various aspects of LaTeX:

1. Session 1 (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM):
By Dr. T. Rakesh Singh
Topics: Introduction to LaTeX software, Document Styling, Page Formatting, Margin Settings, Headers, Footers, Page Orientation, and Page Size.
2. Session 2 (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM):
By Ms. Gita S. Parthiban
Topics: Formatting Content, Writing Mathematical Equations, Bulleted and Numbered Lists.
3. Session 3 (1:30 PM – 3:00 PM):
By Dr. M. C. Ajay Kumar
Topics: Creation of Tables and Insertion of Images.
4. Session 4 (3:15 PM – 4:40 PM):
A practical challenge was assigned to the participants, allowing them to apply the concepts learned in the previous sessions. Outstanding performers were recognized and rewarded.

Conclusion
The LaTeX workshop received an overwhelming response with a total of 146 student participants over two days. The interactive sessions, practical exposure, and expert guidance made the event highly successful. Students expressed enthusiastic feedback and showed keen interest in attending more such skill-building programs in the future.
